Our relationships with our social media tend to be some of the most toxic relationships in our lives. We become addicted to them, often mindlessly scrolling and depending on our feeds to provide us with gratification. Instead, we tend to be met with news and negativity that affects our brains. As entrepreneurs, we might put too much weight on our own profiles and feeds, incorrectly correlating our worth with the number of followers or like we have. We might spend precious business hours poring over our Instagram posts for the upcoming months, when we should have just outsourced them to a professional instead. But, as we’ve chatted about in previous blog posts, a consistent and well-crafted Instagram feed is imperative to business growth and best branding practices. So how does one go about maintaining a healthy relationship with their social media accounts? Create healthy boundaries. We are a big proponent for having set times of the day to engage on your social media. Find out what your peak engagement times are by assessing your profile’s insights and interact with your audience during that one specific hour of the day. Maybe you even allow yourself twenty minutes at lunch to check in on your favorite bloggers and colleagues, but by scheduling in this time in advance, you increase productivity and establish healthy boundaries with a given platform. Take the imaginary pressure off your social media game.
Outsource your social media if it doesn't bring you joy.One of the biggest mistakes we see therapists make is forcing themselves to run their own social media, even though they consider it the biggest headache this side of the sun. Remember: This is your dream practice; you call the shots on where your energy flows. If it doesn’t bring you joy, outsource your social media management to someone with the passion, time, and expertise for it!
